One of our favorite holidays is coming up! If you couldn’t have guessed, National Pasta Day is right around the corner on October 17th. Not only is pasta one of the most affordable foods, but it’s also extremely easy to make. To celebrate this amazing holiday, we’re starting things off with a blog post that covers the pasta shapes and the sauces you should pair them with.

Long & Skinny Pasta Shapes

Pair spaghetti, linguine, fusilli lunghi, and vermicelli with light seafood sauces that are cream or oil based.

Long Ribbon Pasta Shapes

Tagliatelle, pappardelle, fettuccine, and mafaldine pair well with rich, meaty sauces.

Shell Pasta Shapes

Conchiglie and lumache both pair perfectly with heavy cream or meat sauces. Larger shells can be stuffed with a variety of things – try ricotta cheese and marinara sauce.

Twist Pasta Shapes

Fusilli, trofie, strozzapreti, caserecce and gemelli will pair well with lighter, smoother sauces that will cling to the twists.

Tube Pasta Shapes

Penne, rigatoni, macaroni and paccheri pair perfectly with hearty vegetable sauce.

Filled Shapes

Stuffed pastas like ravioli, tortellini and cappelletti all carry a ton of flavor packed inside, so these are best served with a light butter or oil sauce.
