More family, friends, & great food for the New Year!

felice-anno

The New Year is here, and most of us have made a list of things we want to accomplish and experience. We here at Doris Market are no different.  We just celebrated 70 years in South Florida, and we’ve spent the holidays thinking about what we want to do with the 71st year. Below is a list of our 2018 New Year Resolutions.  Let us know if any of these made it on to your list!

Spend more time in the kitchen.

Modern life tends to be overwhelming and overscheduled. We spend our days at Doris preparing fresh foods and yummy desserts for all of you, but even we sometimes find that aren’t spending the time we want to in our own kitchens. This is something we want to change for us and for you, too!

Some of our greatest memories are made at the stove and around the table. Getting into the kitchen with the whole family is a great way to spend time together and share family traditions. It’s also an opportunity to teach important life skills that will stay with them forever.

Practice Italian

Sicilian-market-entranceWe may be fluent in Italian cuisine, but we could definitely improve our Italian language skills. Practicing a language keeps your brain working and opens up an entire new world. As the years go on, it’s also a way to stay connected to the birth place our ancestors (and it makes travelling through the old country that much easier).

Speaking of which . . .

Travel More

shutterstock_649730734There is no place like home, but there is also nothing like going to another place where you get to enjoy the best of another city without all the hassle of actually living there.

Our favorite thing to do is go to new places and learn about the regional cuisine, local produce, and

We love taking trips to Italy and being reminded of the origins of the traditional meals and treats we’re keeping alive in South Florida.

Far More “Dolce Far Niente”

The Italians have a phrase “Dolce Far Niente” which means “the sweetness of doing nothing.” In America, we have a hard time recognizing the value of just doing nothing.  We feel lazy deciding to do nothing when there is SO MUCH to be done. But Italy is on to something that deserves our attention.

We all know in order to be healthy and balanced that we need to relax, manage stress, and have fun–but that’s difficult to do.

We’re going to make our best efforts to set aside time without cell phones and without work on the brain. Then, we’ll fill that time with more picnics on the beach, lavender baths, and long walks.

Freshen Up Our Style

When people find a look they like, it can be hard to change. Trends that were once the height of fashion can start to look out-of-date. After 70 years, we wanted to make a little bit of change. You’ll be seeing an updated design on our website and in the weekly ads along with some great new photography of our markets on social media.

There’s so much more we’d like to work on in the new year, but we’ll stick with these and see how it goes. We’d love to hear what you’re working on in 2018.

Buon-appetito
